From Colin’s Solo performance last night in Seattle, mycarrion recorded this new song. Download it here. You can check out photos from the night’s performance on Flickr here.
Also, at You Ain’t No Picasso, Matt’s hosting mp3s of Colin Meloy on KEXP yesterday as well, incase you missed it. Check that out here.
I’ll be seeing Colin play in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theater this saturday and have a report firstly on the performance, then later (after mailing a few out) a review of his latest EP Colin Meloy Sings Trad. Arr. Shirley Collins.
Lyrics for the new song are as follows as transcribed by mycarrion:
My darling
what wonder
have we wrought here?
it’s weird and it’s wonderful dear
An ankle, an earlobe
an elbow bone
it’s weird how it wonderful grows
And it was only me and you
that made this three come out of two
My darling
what wonder
have we wrought here?
it’s weird and it’s wonderful dear
A tumblin’ in Dublin
and next thing you know
a weird and a wonderful show
All tendons and rib cage
and beating heart
a weird and a wonderful start
And it was only me and you
that made this three come out of two
My darling
what wonder
have we wrought here?
it’s weird and it’s wonderful dear
It’s weird
but mostly wonderful, dear
Stay Tuned
The song is apparently about his baby, due in March. (4th I think? I know it’s early march.)
The song didn’t do much for me, but it made my friend cry.
I was at the KEXP in-studio as well, and the entire space was filled with women. It was a funny sight.
I dunno. It’s a pretty little tune. Sounds like a closing song. I can’t help but find it a bit precious, but at the same time I feel like folks closer to Colin’s age are bound to appreciate it more. It’s certainly different in tone from his other recent work.
