Check out what animation’s already out and what’s coming up this summer to theaters
Ice Age 2: the Meltdown
I like Blue Sky, they never fail to bring me a movie that’s new and interesting. Even though it’s not always great, it is, at least, different from the run of the mill crap you see come out of Dreamworks lately. This sequal to Ice Age was good. It had the same feel and look as Ice Age. The animation was definitely cleaner and the story was a little stronger. I can’t wait to hear about what’s coming up next for Blue Sky… as long as it’s not Ice Age 3: Rise of Man.
The Wild
Quiete possibly one of the worst animated movies I have seen ever! The story was a joke, even though the animation and look of the film was easy on the eyes, it wasn’t enough from me wanting to get up and leave the theater. If it wasn’t for the fact that I felt I had a duty to stick around until the end I would have left. Honestly, who gets up and leaves in the middle of a movie? The only stimulation that ever came from the movie was Eddie Izzard’s great performance as the drunkard koala. Other than that it was tripe.
Over the Hedge
Dreamworks has done it again! And brought us another mediocre animated movie. Over the Hedge had a lot of good moments but unfortunately it doesn’t really stand up to movies like Shrek or even Madagascar. A lot of good humor and even some social commentary. If they would have spent more time working on the story rather than focusing on crazy and wild antics and making references to pop culture, the movie would have been at least better than Madagascar. Ben Folds does the soundtrack. He does a remake of “Rockin’ the Suburbs” that I hate and a remake of The Clash’s “Supermarket” that I am decidely indifferent to.
The Barnyard
Ha Ha Ha! Yeah right!..
Doogal
I was expecting a little more from a movie directed by the same people that bring us The Fairly Oddparents; that show is great! I’m not saying that it was awful (because it wasn’t), but the lip(mis)sync is distracting. This movie was brought over from France from the company Pathé. They make that great “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” short animation with the hippo and the dog. Jon Stewart and William H. Macy are great along with all other stars they got together but still it lacked something I could connect with. I assume something was lost in traslation.
What’s coming up next?
Cars
I’m really not sure what to expect, and I love it. Previews seem to tout it as both a coming of age flick and buddy comedy with some cross-class bonding like you see in Trading Places.
Flushed Away
A movie by the people that bring us those great Wallace and Gromit movies and shorts backed by Dreamworks like their previous The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit which i’m very ashamed to say I haven’t seen yet and Chicken Run (Mel Gibson pre-crazy) which I have and enjoy very much. My only gripe about this movie is that it’s done in CGI! What the fuck? Come on guys stick with the clay. I am not saying they can’t try something new, it’s the fact that it has the same look as the Wallace & Grommit movies. If you’re going to make it look the same why don’t you just do it in clay?
Monster House
This movie is done with human characters. Before you get all ‘Final Fantasy’ on me hear me out, It looks good. The humans are stylized a little but nowhere near as much as The Incredibles. It’s a Sony production and it looks very hopeful. And apparently it will be in 3D in select theaters.
Open Season
Also from Sony. This looks very entertaining. The teaser trailer is hilarious, the bunny part, at least. The story seems intriguing too.

All of the above are very good points, but I would like to hear your take on Cars, I’m sure you’ve seen it be now, I loved it.
Ant Bully. Dang, looks excellence.
