The Confabulators

Decemberists Video

By Walter

I caught third LA-area show of the Decemberists’s ‘Flight of the Mistle Thrushes‘ Tour in Pomona, CA on Sept. 16, Mexican Independance Day.

They covered ‘Tam Lin‘ a folk song with traditional origins, using an arrangement preferred by folk-rock pioneers Fairport Convention. Video 110-some-odd MB Quicktime Format on Megaupload. More videos can be found at YANP.

Rocking with Deerhoof

Deerhoof, simply put, can rock. And rock they did at Gardner Lounge at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA. Having seen the band once before opening for Wilco at the Auditorium Theater (note: they still rocked there)–I was simply blown away by just how much better they came across when I was standing a […]

Webcomic Spotlight: Normal Life

The 40-Year Old Wilco Virgin

Alright, so I’m not quite 40 years old (I’m less than half that), and I’m not quite a Wilco virgin (I listened to a song or two of Summerteeth a few years ago). But the fact remains that I’ve gotten through my entire life without anything more than a little Wilco foreplay, a thought […]

Author Spotlight: David Sedaris

What can one man say about David Sedaris, what words could I find to describe one of the greatest authors of our time? Well, Funny Gay Writer sums it up pretty well, but lacks a certain Confabulators depth.

David Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever, Me Talk Pretty One Day and most recently of Dress […]

Review of Steve Goldberg – How I Remember Them (2005)

(I promised a long time ago I’d review this EP, but it never happened because I got caught up in moving. I’ve finally decided to buckle down, move to the far wall of my apartment, and hijack my Russian neighbor’s WiFi connection. The following review is dedicated to Mr. Shokhirev.)

    1. Preston the Penguin 2. […]
